Horley is located on the Surrey/Sussex Border and has expanded considerably over the past 50 years with the development of Gatwick Airport
The Horley Lions Club was formed in 1963. Since then the membership has grown from 15 to 30 men of varying ages and walks of life, but all with the same commitment to help those less fortunate than themselves.
In recent years there has been an increase in the number of requests for assistance from people in the Redhill and Reigate districts and consequently we are extending our fundraising and welfare activities to include these areas
In common with many other Clubs we have two meetings a month
·
The first is our business meeting when the decisions are made on the current fundraising and welfare issues and whilst it is necessary to resolve these the atmosphere at our meetings is always relaxed with a good deal of humour.
·
The second is a dinner meeting with the members’ wives or partners which takes place at various venues around the area.
There are also various social events during the year.
The club is twinned with the Bad Nauheim Lions Club in Germany and a weekend “get together” is organised each year. (Totally paid for by the members.)
We are not a secret society but as with all Lions Clubs, Membership is by invitation
