The Club organises many fund raising events and detailed below are some typical
Horley Lions Club
Serving Horley, Reigate, Redhill and surrounding villages
The bookstall is one of the Lions most visible events to the people of Horley. It is parked in the centre of the Town each Saturday morning (weather permitting) and sells second hand books which have been donated to us. Frequently they are purchased - read and then donated back to us.
One of our more recent annual events is a Dog Show. incorporating Pedigree, Fun Classes, Agility and a Scurry, In addition there are demonstrations and stalls from both animal charities and local traders. It has become an enjoyable day out for families, be they dog owners or not.
Each year we hold a horse show at the Felbridge Show Ground. This is well supported by stables, both near and far and strives to be a “friendly event” providing enjoyment for all that attend as well as raising funds for various charities.
Our BBQ Bar can be found at many of our events selling Beef Burgers, Hot Dogs, Bacon Rolls, Teas, Coffees Soft Drinks etc. It can also be seen at events held by other organisations from as far away as Storrington, as they are happy in the knowledge that all the profits go to Charity.
Every year we organise a week long Skittles Tournament which attracts 64 teams. It is a fun event, although on Finals Night you can tell that everyone has come to win. The real winner is the nominated charity as it raises £5-6,000 each year!
In December the Father Christmas sleigh is out raising money for those in need in the surrounding area. It is not only parked outside the major Stores and Supermarkets but is also taken around the streets of Horley delighting the young children, who stay up to see him.
